LOUGH DERG DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

A Message from the Prior

Lough Derg has been a place of pilgrimage since the eleventh century. Ten centuries forward, we continue to draw pilgrims from Ireland and beyond, providing them with a sanctuary away from their busy lives, allowing them to rediscover the taste of a more human pace of living, finding time for body and soul.

As with any heritage site, facilities have required repair and refurbishment from time to time. Many of you will remember the excitement at the development of new hostel accommodation in the 1980's. I greatly appreciate the support we received then and since.

It remains my responsibility to care for the heritage left by our ancestors, while at the same time providing for the needs of future pilgrims. The building development which has occured over the last five years has been extensive, and brings to an end the work begun in 1984 by my predecessor, Monsignor Gerard McSorley.

I am grateful for all your support and contribution over the years towards the Building Fund. This work will allow future generations of pilgrims to come together in this sacred space to make their own inner journeys as their ancestors have been doing for hundreds of years.

Míle buíochas agus go gcumhdaí Dia thú. .
